As a key component of the UNESCO s Project "Strategic Strengthening of Flood Warning and Management Capacity of Pakistan", the workshop was organized at NUST Institute of Civil Engineering from 20-23 Dec, 2011 in cooperation with National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), Pakistan Metrological Department (PMD), SUPARCO and other partner organizations.

In the aftermath of 2010 floods, UNESCO has initiated a major project "Strategic Strengthening of Flood Warning and Management Capacity of Pakistan" for upgrading the flood forecasting and early warning system, and for the risk mapping of flood plains along the Indus River, in cooperation with the government of Japan.

The return should reflect such risk factors as the project's technical complexity, the agency's management capacity, the likelihood of cost overruns, and the consequences of under- or non-performance.

Further institutional capacity building of MoI Literacy Department in project planning, implementation, management, teacher training, materials development and monitoring and evaluation are envisaged to be carried out in LEAP 2 together with the MoI.

In order to gain a clear insight into the scale of the global problem, the FAO has established the International Pollinators Initiative, which includes a project involving seven nations (India is among them) with the aim of identifying practices and building capacity in the management of pollination services.
