The opening addresses were followed by a debate between prominent intellectuals and peace advocates -- including UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador Forest Whitaker, Deputy Executive Director of UN Women, Lakshmi Puri, Wole Soyinka, Arjun Appadurai, Jeffrey Sachs, as well as Nasser David Khalili.

These issues will be at the heart of a High Level Debate on the Culture of Peace and Non Violence organized by UNESCO, in the presence of the UN Secretary-General, UNESCO Special Envoy for Basic and Higher Education Her Highness Sheikha Moza Bint Nasser and prominent intellectuals and peace advocates, including Wole Soyinka, Elie Wiesel and Forrest Whittaker.

Mr. Zakaria, who also hosts a show on global affairs on CNN, is one of the country's most prominent public intellectuals, having served for a decade as editor of Newsweek International before joining Time magazine as editor-at-large in 2010.

During her official visit, the Director-General will hold meetings with the President of the Republic of Bulgaria Rosen Plevneliev, Prime Minister Boyko Borissov, Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikolay Mladenov, Minister of Culture Vezhdi Rashidov, Mayor of Sofia Jordanka Fandakova, as well as prominent Bulgarian intellectuals.
