地磁暴，是地球磁场全球性的剧烈扰动现象。以地磁指数来表征地磁暴的大小。地磁暴是高速等离子体云到达地球空间后，引发的最具代表性的全球空间环境扰动事件。地磁暴的强度可以表征太阳风暴中高速等离子体云的影响大小。地磁暴的强度等级一般用Kp指数和Dst指数这两类地磁指数来划分。在研究中通常采用Dst指数分级，而在预警应用中采用Kp指数。
