The paper discusses the evolution of the capable fault concept and points out the identification marks of capable faults in accordance with the seismic environment and condition in China.

The design ground motion time histories was synthesized for the Shahuan Nuclear Power Plant Site according to the characteristics of the site and the specifications of input motion in the paper.
