多段攀登（Multi-climbing）时，每爬完一个绳长或者遭到相宜的平台，都会设置一个保护站，以此为起点开端下一段的攀登；

这种保护方式在没有合适的立足点时使用，通常用于困难的多段攀登中。
Hanging belays are done when there is no suitable ledge or foothold available. Most often done on difficult, multi-pitch climbs.
