As a dialogue partner, China has built active cooperative relations with Pacific Islands Forum and deepened friendly exchanges and dialogue with island countries.

The South Pacific Forum, as it was initially called, first met in Wellington, New Zealand, in 1971.

Until he does, and unless the Fiji problem is resolved some other way, it is unlikely that the Pacific Islands Forum will be able to achieve much else.
