"This reinforces the conclusion that HPV testing has a possibly high sensitivity to lead to the detection of biologically progressive precancerous lesions," he said.

The early detection and treatment of such lesions resulted in a lower rate of advanced cancers, and a lower number of invasive cancers and cervical cancer deaths in the HPV-testing group.
