1950年，中国进行土改运动时，将农村阶级划分成了“地主、富农、中农、贫农、工人”。中农又分“上中农、中农和下中农”。富农的意思就是富裕农民，有一定数量的土地（各地标准不一样），然后雇佣部分长工，自己也参加劳动（不参加劳动的就是地主）。
