In Shanghai the strain effect of ocean tide loads approached the direct effect of tide-generating force, and after correction of ocean tide loads the accuracy of calculation was distinctly improved.

Confinement of concrete results in a modification of the effective stress-strain relationship: higher strength and higher critical strains are achieved.

On such a basis, the secondary effects caused by the tide are analysed with the calculation method for the component of strain presented.
