Maduramicin is a new type of polyether ionophore antibiotic, which can particularly kill and restrain coccidia - a kind of animal parasite which induce coccidiosis.

Importantly, the growth of these parasites can be inhibited by the herbicide glyphosate, suggesting that the shikimate pathway will make a good target for the development of new anti-parasite agents.

Doramectin, which is manufactured by mutational biosynthesis method, is a novel avermectin derivative.
