To determine whether home visits for neonatal care by community health workers can reduce infant and neonatal deaths and stillbirths in resource-limited settings.

Provides care to newborn infants, and provides advice and training on infant care to parents of newborn infants. Registration or licensing is required.

The study came about through an international project led by the U. S. -based consortium NIDCAP, whose goal is to create a set of standard practices to optimize the health and well-being of neonates.
