生态经济简称ECO，“ECO”取自“经济的(economic)”和“生态的(ecological)”两个英文单词的词头，生态经济是指在生态系统承载能力范围内，运用生态经济学原理和系统工程方法改变生产和消费方式，挖掘一切可以利用的资源潜力，发展一些经济发达、生态高效的产业，建设体制合理、社会和谐的文化以及生态健康、景观适宜的环境。生态经济是实现经济腾飞与环境保护、物质文明与精神文明、自然生态与人类生态的高度统一和可持续发展的经济。
