Scientists in Canada found one beer a day reduced the risk of cataracts – a major cause of blindness in old age.

In the developed world cataracts hardly ever cause blindness, and mostly elderly people are affected.

Identifying the underlying causes of age-related cataract may help lead to new treatments and even ways to prevent the condition, the study authors noted.
