In 1971 Mr Kamen set up a company to manufacture the pumps, and in 1982 he sold it to Baxter International, a medical-equipment firm.

Baxter will continue to provide batteries, spare parts, and service for the affected pumps during the transition period for customers who submit a Certificate of Medical Necessity to Baxter.
