离岸流，学名裂流，是一股射束似的狭窄而强劲的水流，它以垂直或接近垂直于海岸的方向向外海流去。其宽度一般不超过10米，长度一般在30～50米之间，有的长达700～800米。这束水流虽然不长，但速度很快，流速可高达每秒2米以上，每股的持续时间为两三分钟甚至更长。
