The percentage of retired older workers has increased dramatically since the introduction of Social Security. This is at least partially the result of work disincentives in the system.

The social security system started late in China, so the related system is imperfect. Coupled with the shortcomings of the old-aged women themselves, the survival of the group is worrying.
