Within minutes of being inhaled into the lungs cigarette smoke causes genetic mutations linked to lung cancer, according to a new study in the Chemical Research in Toxicology.

When people are smoking, nicotine will go straight into their lungs and remain there, thus increasing the possibilities of catching lung cancer.

Further research is needed to elucidate the biological mechanisms underlying the associations between pulmonary scarring, inflammation, and lung cancer.
