Shanhaiyudiquantu which had been drawn by Matteo Ricci has contributed much to the advance of cartographic history of China after Ming Dynasty.

He had done research on geography, catalogue, edition, inscription and calligraphy as well as classic, ancient lexicography and collecting the discovered ones all his life.

Established in 1896, Wuchang Territory society was the earliest folk natural science society in Hubei area as well as the first geography society in China.
