植物（草本和木本植物）燃烧后的残余物，称草木灰。属于不可溶物质。草木灰肥料因草木灰为植物燃烧后的灰烬，所以是凡植物所含的矿质元素，草木灰中几乎都含有。草木灰质轻且呈碱性，干时易随风而去，湿时易随水而走，与氮肥接触易造成氮元素挥发损失。
