A Vietnamese exporter selling to China is exposed to exchange-rate risk: he pays his workforce in dong, the local currency, but receives payment in dollars.

Vietnam's currency is consistently falling below the official exchange rates, creating a thriving black market for gold and dollars.

The dong can now fluctuate within 0.75% of a central rate reset each day, supposedly in response to market pressures.
