马萨达是犹太人的圣地，联合国世界遗产之一。位于犹地亚沙漠与死海谷底交界处的一座岩石山顶，北距EinGedi约25公里。其东侧悬崖高约450米，从山顶直下死海之滨；西侧悬崖高约100米。山顶平整，呈便菱形，南北长约600米，东西宽约300米，周围城墙长约1400米。通向马萨达的自然道路都极为险峻，最主要的是东侧的“蛇行路”（SnakePath）。
