abstract:Environmentally hazardous is a chemical hazard, where significant damage to the environment is caused by a chemical substance. It is defined in the Globally Harmonized System and in the European Union chemical regulations.
Unlike conventional monitors, LED-backlit displays contain few or no environmentallyhazardous substances, such as mercury or lead, and use about 40 percent less energy.
The eco-rating system assesses 15 specific criteria drawn from five general categories of sustainability attributes - attributes include the usage of environmentally preferable materials, minimization of hazardous substances, energy efficiency, responsible end-of-life treatment and environmentally-responsible manufacturing.
