abstract:A ringback tone (or ringing tone) is an audible indication that is heard on the telephone line by the caller while the phone they are calling is being rung. It is normally a repeated tone, designed to assure the calling party that the called party's line is ringing, although the ring-back tone may be out of sync with the ringing signal.
Ringback music, also calledpersonalizedringback tone, is a piece ofmusicheard by the caller instead of the traditionaltelephone ring signal when a telephone call is placed.
Apparently white people haven't yet mastered the art of making a ringbacktone that sells, because the Caller Tunes chart is dominated by hip hop acts, with Lil Jon (aka Mr. Crunktastic) grabbing the top two spots.
