SKS wave
-
abstract:
The letters SKS are used to designate the path of a seismic waves (seismology) through layers of the Earth, with S indicating a shear wave or s-wave traveling through the mantle, and K indicating a compressional wave or p-wave traveling though the Earth outer core. Thus an SKS wave is a type of seismic wave that initially travels as an S-wave through the Earth's mantle, then passes into the Earth's outer core becoming a p-wave, and then upon passing from the core into the mantle transforms again into an s-wave.
