UltraViolet is a common fileformat and digital rights authentication system designed to allow a digital copy of a film or television show bought from any vendor physical or electronic to be played on any one of 12 devices owned by up to six members of a household, either via download or streaming from the cloud.
The software converts media stored in one fileformat to those used by the other devices in a system that mimics the process of ripping a CD onto a computer.
