Following the earthquakein the RepublicofArmenia in 1988, which resulted in over 250,000 deaths, efforts were organized by international agencies to developanassistance program.
The National Commission of the RepublicofArmenia was represented by the Counselor of the Embassy of the RepublicofArmenia in the Russian Federation Mr Ara Avetisyan.
The Conference is organized by the Ministry of Culture of the RepublicofArmenia with support of the UNESCO Moscow Office for Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, the Republicof Moldova and the Russian Federation, Intergovernmental Foundation for Educational, Scientific and Cultural Cooperation (IFESCCO) and in partnership with the Armenian Linguistic University "Interlingua" and the Russian Institute for Cultural Research.
On the occasion of her visit to Bulgaria, Irina Bokova also held a number of bilateral meetings with the Ministers of Culture of Serbia, The former Yugoslav Republicof Macedonia, and Armenia.
