abstract:The Suriname River (Dutch: Surinamerivier) is 480 km long and flows through the country Suriname. Its sources are located in the Guiana Highlands on the border between the Wilhelmina Mountains and the Eilerts de Haan Mountains (where it is known as the Gran Rio).
And in Guyana and Suriname, coastal farmers irrigating with water from river estuaries have had to stop: because of the rivers' weak flow, it was sea-water.
Kelly (aged 14) comes from Brazil, lives in Suriname and hitches a ride by canoe across the Maroni River each morning to school in Maripasoula, French Guiana.
