海上意外事故，是指海上运输中，船货遭遇的非因船员和货物所有人以及第三人的过失造成的偶然事件。包括气候、水文情况的变化、地震、火山爆发、战争、拿捕、封锁以及其他正常人所不能预见，合理的谨慎也不能避免与阻止其发生的意外事件。
